A report from the Fraser Institute says patients wait on average about 30 weeks between a referral from a GP and receiving treatment.
In 1993, the wait was 9.3 weeks. In Saskatchewan, the wait this year is 37.2 weeks compared to 9.8 weeks in ’93.
Comparing last year to this year, the average wait across the country was 14.8 weeks last year and 15 weeks this year. In Saskatchewan, the weeks rose from 14.3 to 17.7. For an MRI, it was a 16 week wait two years ago and now is 24, and for an ultrasound, the wait has held steady at 2 weeks, which is the lowest of all the provinces.
Across the country, patients waited the longest for Orthopaedic Surgery at 57.5 weeks followed by Neurosurgery at 46.2 weeks.
