Blades Newcomer Scott Scores in Debut, But Can’t Overcome Bushel of Wheat Kings’ Goals

Tanner Scott scored in his first game with the Saskatoon Blades after being acquired from Victoria Thursday in the Brandon Lisowsky trade, but there wasn’t enough offensive support from his team-mates as the Bridge City Bunch were trimmed 6-2 by the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings Friday night at SaskTel Centre.

For the eighth time in their last nine games, the Blue and Gold allowed the opening goal, spotting the Wheaties a 3-0 lead. In those nine games, the Blades have been out-scored 8-1 in first periods and 15-9 in second periods. Saskatoon did pull to within a goal before the second frame was done Friday, only to have the visitors score three times in the third period in front of 4,121 fans. Saskatoon product Nolan Flamand paced Brandon with two goals and two assists while defenceman Dylan Ronald scored twice, giving him three goals for the season – all against the Bridge City Bunch. Defenceman Grayden Siepmann added the other goal for the Blue and Gold plus had an assist while centre Ben Riche chipped in a pair of helpers, extending his points streak to seven games. The loss dropped the Blades to 20-12-4, still tied with Medicine Hat for first place in the Eastern Conference. The Wheat Kings improved to 18-11-5 for 41 points, tied with Prince Albert for second place in the East Division, three points back of Saskatoon. The Wheaties visit the Raiders Saturday while the Blades travel to Moose Jaw. Game time is 7 p.m. with CJWW’s broadcast beginning at 6:45.
