One of two teams playing Friday night was guaranteed to end a winless streak and, in the end, it was the Saskatoon Blades who managed to do that with a 4-3 overtime triumph over the Red Deer Rebels.

Hayden Harsanyi (pictured) sent most of the crowd of 4,247 fans at SaskTel Centre home happy by scoring on a breakaway just 56 seconds into extra time. That allowed the Bridge City Bunch to put the brakes on a three-game winless skid while extending Red Deer’s winless run to 11 games. The Blue and Gold had a reversal of fortune from Wednesday when they let a 3-1, third period lead slip away in a 4-3 shootout loss to Portland. On Friday, the Blades went into the third period facing a 3-1 deficit. But, Cooper Williams scored twice to force O-T, setting the stage for Harsanyi’s heroics. For 17-year-old Harsanyi, it was his third goal in four games since joining Saskatoon from Medicine Hat in the blockbuster trade that moved Tanner Molendyk to the Tigers. Harsanyi has registered points in all four games with the Bridge City Bunch. Grayden Siepmann also scored for the Blue and Gold while David Lewandowski chipped in a pair of assists. The Blades improved to 23-14-5 for the season, a record they will take into a Sunday contest at SaskTel Centre against Swift Current. Game time is 4 o’clock with CJWW’s broadcast beginning at 3:45.
