A man who escaped from the Prince Albert Penitentiary on December 31st has been located and arrested. On Tuesday, the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Prince Albert Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team were looking for 29-year-old Glen Halkett in the Rosthern area, and noticed him as a passenger in a vehicle with three other people in the parking lot of a business on 6th Street East. Police say the vehicle took off, but officers prevented it from getting out of the parking lot.
Halkett and the man driving the vehicle were arrested and after subsequent investigation the two other passengers, a man and a woman, were also arrested. RCMP report the seizure of 197 grams of cocaine, 95 grams of meth, six grams of cannabis and $1,620 in cash.
Halkett’s new charges from this incident are possession of meth and cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. Those are added on to his charges from escaping and then fleeing from police the next day, which include flight from a peace officer, dangerous driving, escaping lawful custody and being unlawfully at large. He was serving a two year, nine month sentence for break and enter with intent among other charges when he escaped.
The three others in the car, 27-year-old Anthony Daniels of Sturgeon Lake First Nation, 50-year-old Mervin Vermette of Shellbrook and 29-year-old Gina Roy of Beauval are charged with possession the purpose of trafficking meth and cocaine. Vermette is also charged with breach of a release order and Daniels is charged with driving while prohibited.
