A rough first period, because of defensive zone breakdowns and turnovers, put the Saskatoon Blades in chase mode – and they never were able to catch the Raiders in a 6-3 loss in Prince Albert Friday night.
P-A built a 4-1 lead before the Bridge City Bunch pushed back in the final minute of the first period to make it 4-3 going to the intermission. However, the Blue and Gold couldn’t get an equalizer and the Raiders were able to close out their 24th victory of the season in front of a standing room only crowd of 2,919 at the Art Hauser Centre. The victory moves Prince Albert into a tie with the Blades for first place in the W-H-L’s East Division and the Raiders holding two games in hand. The line of Aiden Oiring, Tomas Mrsic and Brayden Dube combined for eight points – Oiring and Mrsic each with a goal and two assists while Dube had a goal and a helper. Daxon Rudolph, Riley Boychuk and Jackson Kostiuk also tallied for 24-15-3 P-A, who were out-shot 35-32 by 23-16-5 Saskatoon. Cooper Williams paced the Bridge City Bunch with a goal and an assist while Hayden Harsnyi and Hunter Laing also connected for the Blue and Gold. The Raiders can take sole possession of first place Saturday with a win or extra time loss in Regina before they visit the Blades on Sunday at 4 o’clock at SaskTel Centre.
