Justice Christensen’s goal at 3:31 of overtime gave the Prince Albert Raiders a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the home-standing Saskatoon Blades on Sunday.
It was the second goal of the game for the P-A captain and defenceman as the Raiders pulled two points clear of the Bridge City Bunch atop the W-H-L’s East Division. Had the Blue and Gold won in extra time, the teams would’ve been tied atop the group. The game, in front of 4,318 fans, had elements of “old-school” Saskatoon-Prince Albert contests with three separate fights, plus several pushing and shoving scrums that added up to 68 total penalty minutes. The Blades held leads of 1-0 and 2-1, thanks to a pair of Rowan Calvert power play goals, but needed a Tyler Parr goal with 5:49 remaining in the third period to force O-T. For Parr, the goal completed a “Gordie Howe hat-trick” as the 19-year-old La Salle, Manitoba product added two assists and was involved in the first of the three scraps to go along with his goal. Grayden Siepmann and Tanner Scott also chipped in a pair of assists for the 23-16-6 Bridge City, who out-shot the 25-15-4 Raiders 36-28. Tomas Mrsic and Riley Boychuk also tallied while Brayden Dube chipped in a pair of assists for P-A, whose next action is a Wednesday home game against Regina. The Blue and Gold are idle until Friday when they host the Wenatchee Wild.
