There is a blowing snow advisory in effect for an area from north of Lloydminster over to Medstead and then draw a line south through North Battleford, Rosthern, Humboldt, Wadena and over to Yorkton, including Saskatoon, and virtually everything south of that is impacted.
Falling snow combined with southeast winds up to 40 gusting 60 km/h will produce areas of near-zero visibility in blowing snow. Conditions will deteriorate midday Friday near the Alberta border. The snow and wind will spread southeast through the rest of the day. Conditions will begin to improve this evening in the west and midday Saturday in eastern areas.
Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. Blowing snow advisories are issued when winds are expected to create blowing snow giving poor visibility to 800 metres or less for at least 3 hours.
Earlier this week, Saskatchewan RCMP said early findings indicate poor weather conditions contributed to the majority of an alarming number of fatal accidents that have already occurred this year. There have been eight collisions from January 1-29 resulting in 11 deaths compared to two fatal collisions and three deaths from the same time period in 2024.
