CUPE workers with the City of Melville have voted 93 per cent in favour of job action, up to and including a full withdrawal of services.
CUPE staff representative with Local 456, Dylan Breland, says there are 32 permanent staff who are union members at the City of Melville, and since 2021, 32 full-time permanent staff resigned, leaving for other jobs.
Breland states that other employers in the region are offering anywhere from two to five dollars more per hour for equal or lesser qualifications and skills.
The collective agreement between the City of Melville and CUPE 456 expired at the end of 2023.
Breland says last December the City declared an impasse so there was a mediation session which ended when the employer offered a worse deal.
Another mediation date with the mediator and the City is scheduled for February 26th.
