Wheat Kings Repel Blades Best in Third Period For Critical East Division Victory

The visitors had all the answers and more on Family Day as Brandon moved into sole possession of second place in the East Division with a 6-3 victory over the Saskatoon Blades.

The Wheat Kings had a quick response to all three Bridge City Bunch tallies, within a 2:10 span in all instances, plus red-hot forward Joby Baumuller tallied twice in between as the Wheaties won their fourth straight game, picked up points in the standings in a ninth consecutive contest and stayed one point back of East Division-leading Prince Albert…with a game in hand. Baumuller has scored seven goals in the last four Brandon outings. The Raiders bounced Moose Jaw 8-2 to get to 66 points in 53 games while the Wheat Kings improved to 29-16-7 for 65 points, two better than the 28-18-7 Blue and Gold for 63 points. The highlights for the Blades was opening the scoring in the first period, thanks to the first W-H-L goal from 16-year-old affiliate call-up forward Triston Mitchell-McElhone, plus third period tallies from Rowan Calvert and Kohen Lodge. In between, Saskatoon lacked spark as they were out-shot 25-13 through two periods in front of 4,691 fans at SaskTel Centre.
