Saskatoon police officers responded to ten bear spray incidents over the Family Day weekend. One incident was around 5:30pm Saturday at The Centre Mall. Police were told a large group deployed bear spray and after investigation it appears two groups were deploying bear spray at each other as they were running through the mall. They had all fled by the time officers arrived.
Then around noon on Monday, police responded Midtown Plaza downtown. Officers were told that while security was escorting four people out of the mall, they deployed bear spray at the guard. They fled, but were arrested a short distance away. Police report that two had bear spray and a third had a collapsible baton.
Three of the four teens ranging in age from 15 to 17 are facing weapons-related charges and a 16-year-old was also charged with assault with a weapon.
