Although it wasn’t accepting any patients, the Saskatchewan NDP says a Lumsden Treatment Centre received $800,000 in ‘secret’ payments from the Sask. Party Government over the summer.
Through a Freedom of Information request, the NDP obtained Government emails that allegedly revealed the payments. The total cost of the project was redacted, but the NDP says the emails indicate $1.5 million in startup costs alone.
The privately owned 60-bed facility, operated by EHN Canada, was first announced in January of 2024. However, over a year later, the facility is still not fully operational. Five patients were admitted to the facility as of January 23rd, 2025.
The NDP now is calling on the Sask. Party to fully disclose the total cost of the Lumsden Treatment Centre and include detail of where the money has gone and how many patients have been treated.
