As Canadian brace for 25 per cent tariffs, expected to take effect on March 4th, the Saskatchewan NDP is finding new ways of encouraging the province to spend money locally.
This morning, at Saskatoon’s SaskMade Marketplace, Party Leader Carla Beck announced the launch of the ‘Shop Local, Shop Sask’ campaign. The party also introduced a new website to accompany the campaign titled www.shopsk.ca. Here, Saskatchewan shoppers can submit and share their favourite local businesses with the rest of their community.
Beck says, “Whether it’s families at their local grocery store or governments when it comes to public contracts and builds, it’s time to bet big on Saskatchewan and on Canada.” She adds that for her party, Canada will never be the 51st state.
President Donald Trump first threatened these tariffs on Canadian goods back in December, before his inauguration, but postponed the implementation until early March after Canada agreed to increase border security measures.
