A 40-year-old man was arrested by the Prince Albert Police Service following a welfare complaint on Sunday morning.
According to a PAPS news release, officers seized a firearm plus multiple illicit substances after being called to an alley in the 2200 block of 2nd Avenue West at about 8:50 a.m. on March 2. Police say initial information was that a person appeared to be unconscious in their vehicle. Upon arrival, officers entered the vehicle through the driver side door and observed a collapsible baton, then learned the man was prohibited from driving a motor vehicle Canada-wide. He was arrested for possession of a weapon, then found to have a handgun on his person, which was seized by police. A further search of the vehicle turned up $2,960 worth of Canadian currency, ammunition, 18.6 grams of crack cocaine and 13.6 grams of psilocybin. The man was charged with possession of a weapon, careless use of a firearm and ammunition, concealing a weapon, possession of a firearm, possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime. He was scheduled to appear in court on Monday morning.
