Swift Current RCMP got a call February 18th asking them to help out Saskatchewan Highway Patrol with a roadside traffic stop.
A tractor trailer unit had been pulled over on the Trans-Canada about 14 kilometres west of Swift Current and RCMP say the male driver was travelling from Toronto to British Columbia.
A search of the trailer turned up approximately 7.5 million unstamped cigarettes.
24-year-old Sherry Kavukattu from Delta, BC is facing multiple charges under the Criminal Code, the Excise Act and the Saskatchewan Tobacco Tax Act.
In a news release Minister of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety Tim Mcleod said. “This type of criminal activity can have widespread repercussions on our communities by creating opportunities for further trafficking crime and negatively affecting our economy and small businesses.”
