A good start, but without scoring, did in the Saskatoon Blades Sunday in a 5-1 loss to the Hitmen in Calgary.
The result gives the Hitman a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarter-final series. If the Bridge City Bunch are to return to Calgary again, they’ll need to win at least one of the next two games on Tuesday and Wednesday at SaskTel Centre. Winning both games is a must for the Blue and Gold if they are to have a shot at advancing to the second round. The Blades played with the Hitmen through the first 10 minutes Sunday, but failed to score on their chances. That led to Calgary scoring twice in a 2:17 span, just past the mid-point of the opening frame, after which the home side took over and dominated, out-shooting Saskatoon 48-23 and winning 33 of 49 faceoffs. Defenceman Grayden Siepmann broke Anders Miller’s shutout bid just past the mid-point of the third period.
