A 65-year-old man who is legally blind, has cancer and uses a wheelchair is being given the option to move from his current government housing in Moose Jaw to another spot, or find something on his own because his current home has too much space. That’s according to the provincial NDP on behalf of Randy Hughes, who attended the Saskatchewan Legislature on Wednesday.

He was recently informed by the government housing authority that he has to leave his ground level bungalow and move into a much smaller high-rise apartment because he has too much space and is “over-housed”. Hughes says he checked out the new apartment it doesn’t fit his wheelchair. He suggests if he has to move in, he will lose his ability to live independently.

Shadow Minister for Housing, April ChiefCalf, says, “He shouldn’t have to come to the Legislature and beg for the government to do the right thing”. Hughes has been told that he needs to move to make room for families in need of housing.
