One more win for good measure for the Saskatoon Berries on Monday.
The Berries finished the 2025 W-C-B-L regular season with a 7-5 victory over the Medicine Hat Mavericks before 1,867 fans at Cairns Field, ending up with a 46-9 record. Saskatoon won while resting almost all of their regular position players and using six affiliate players – all of whom will play for Saskatchewan at the Canadian Under-18 Championship from August 14-17 in Fort McMurray, Alberta. One of the regulars who did play, outfielder Jalen Freeman, hit a home run and drove in three runs. One of the affiliates in action, third baseman Ty Dale (pictured) stroked a two-run triple in the fourth inning that gave the Berries a comfortable 4-1 lead. The Freeman homer and Dale triple made affiliate Willis Simair the winning pitcher of record for Saskatoon. Simair threw three-and-a-third scoreless innings. The loss was the fourth in a row for Medicine Hat, who finished the season in second place in the East Division with a 34-21 record, 12 games behind the Berries. So, now it’s on to the playoffs. Saskatoon will play the fourth place Moose Jaw Miller-Express in a best-of-three East Division semi-final, starting Wednesday at Cairns Field, while the Mavericks return home to welcome the Regina Red Sox on Wednesday as well. Following are media scrums with Freeman, Dale, head coach Joe Carnahan and infielder Cooper Wesslund plus the official box score courtesy the W-C-B-L…..
