The City of Prince Albert 2025 Lifeguard Scholarship has been awarded to Shayla Preston. The scholarship, created in 2023, to celebrate the achievements of lifeguards, is valued at $2,000.
Shayla has been a lifeguard with the City of Prince Albert since 2020 working in various positions at the Frank J. Dunn Swimming Pool, Kinsmen Water Park, and is part of the team preparing for the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre opening.
She is completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) this spring at the University of Saskatchewan to become a Registered Nurse (RN) and says the job as a lifeguard has not only prepared her professionally but with it she became a more confident, capable, and compassionate person.
\Lauren Haubrich, Recreation Coordinator for Aquatics says, Her passion for water safety, accountability, and teamwork have been an amazing asset this 2025 season”The lifeguard team is made up of remarkable individuals and that is demonstrated through the excellent scholarship applicants each year.”
