If you are a Saskatoon and area dog owner hoping to head out to Chief Whitecap Dog Park this Thanksgiving long weekend, you will need to continue finding an alternative.
The City of Saskatoon has updated its completion date for work at the dog park with a new opening date of October 17th, so a week from Friday (Oct 10). The park closed at the beginning of September while the City worked on a new 1.3 kilometre crusher dust trail. The parking lot remains open for access to trails outside the off-leash area. The contractor has hollowed out the pathway and is smoothing the surface, the next step is adding crusher dust.
There are 13 dog parks in and around Saskatoon like Hyde Park and Caswell which are small urban parks to large off-leash areas such as Sutherland and Chief Whitecap. As you get ready for Thanksgiving long weekend, some of the things which are toxic to dogs includes chocolate, grapes, raisins, garlic and onions as well as the sugar substitute xylitol.
In 2024 the Saskatoon Animal Control Agency received 4, 878 Calls for Service with 323 for barking, 473 bite cases or dangerous animal and 2,585 confined and at large animals.
