The Board of Education of Sun West School Division No. 207 has reported a loss of public money in the amount of $5,599 for the fourth quarter of the 2024-25 school division fiscal year.

A news release from the provincial government says a payroll amount was misdirected to an inappropriate bank account as a result of someone fraudulently impersonating an employee and initiating a change to bank information. The amount of money misdirected totalled $5,599 and efforts to recover the money have been unsuccessful.

The Province says the incident was reported to the RCMP, insurer and external auditor. Going forward the school division will require additional confirmation through direct contact to verify future changes to banking information, followed by implementation of an employee log-in system for any changes to personal information.
