The Saskatchewan NDP is calling for a public inquiry led by an independent judge into the wildfire season that left many homes destroyed and evacuees stranded without supports.
The NDP says that the provincial government refused assistance from the federal government and the military while northern communities were burned or severely damaged.
They hope that by having a public inquiry where people testify and recommendations can be developed, that the government will take action to reduce the effects that the wildfires had on communities in the north.
The Provincial Ombudsman is already investigating the government’s possible failures to support wildfire evacuees and the Provincial Auditor is looking into the alleged overspending of $100 million on water bombers.
