The prescribed burns being conducted in and around Saskatoon are coming to an end, as this is the last day of the Canadian Prairies Prescribed Fire Training Exchange.
Today’s fire activities are planned for the Aberdeen Community Pasture, Blackstrap Provincial Park, Wanuskewin Heritage Park, and Saskatoon Natural Grasslands.
The Meewasin Valley Authority is helping to host the event, which bring together over 60 participants from across Canada and the United States. The training experience aims to cover several objectives, such as reducing snowberry and wolf willow cover, enhancing wildlife habitat for grassland bird and raptor species, reducing dead aspen buildup, and reducing fire risk, particularly on trails.
The public is advised that smoke may be visible in these areas today, however a change in weather conditions could call the burn off.
