It was a “Good Friday” for the Saskatoon Blades as they downed the Oil Kings 4-2 in Edmonton to take a 3-2 lead in their best-of-seven W-H-L Eastern Conference quarter-final.

The Bridge City Bunch surrendered the Game 5 opening goal, but battled back to tie late in the first period on a tally by Zach Olsen, who missed the Game 4 loss at SaskTel Centre due to illness. He added an assist on Hayden Harsanyi’s game winner and was named the game’s first star. Hunter Laing and Tyler Parr, the latter into an empty net, also tallied for the Blue and Gold. Defenceman Brayden Klimpke added a pair of assists – the second one being a diving play to swat a puck out of the Blades’ zone while the Oil Kings were pressing for the tying goal with goaltender Ethan Simcoe on the bench for an extra attacker, leading to Parr’s insurance marker. Once again, the series trend continued as Saskatoon won the odd numbered game and neither team has won two straight as they out-shot E-O-K 39-37 and held Edmonton’s power play off the scoreboard on three chances. The Bridge City Bunch get first crack at winning the series on Easter Sunday at 2 o’clock at SaskTel Centre.
