A recent incident in Manitoba is serving as a reminder to stay away from the water’s edge at this time of year.
On Monday at 4:55 p.m., RCMP received a report that a four-year-old boy had fallen into a creek near his home southeast of Winkler.
Officers learned that the boy and his older brother were playing in the yard, when they lost track of boundaries and ended up near the creek. The younger brother was playing on some ice and snow near the water that suddenly broke off, causing him to fall into the water.
The older brother ran inside to tell their mother, and although she didn’t know how to swim, she jumped into the creek to save her son from a culvert. She started performing CPR and successfully revived the boy while a neighbour called 911.
The child was taken to a hospital in Winnipeg, and according to the latest report, he was in stable condition.
