On Friday night around 11:20 p.m. police responded to a report of an assault with a weapon at an apartment complex in the 100 block of Tait Crescent in the city’s Wildwood neighbourhood.
Police located a man who had suffered non-life-threatening injuries and the 21-year-old told police when he entered the apartment building, he was confronted by two males he didn’t know. One of them reportedly brandished what appeared to be a firearm. The two suspects then assaulted the victim and robbed him of multiple items.
While answering the assault call the officers officers noticed one of the doors to a unit had been broken and learned the aparment had been broken into.
A short time later police located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle and they attemped a traffic stop but the suspect vehicle sped off. For the sake of road safety, the officers disengaged following the suspects.
But shortly before 11 a.m. on Saturday, while on patrol in the 100 block of Cavers Street, in North Park, officers once again located the suspect vehicle but this time unoccupied. Police say a search of the vehicle turned up ammunition, a handgun grip, a hammer, and multiple ski masks.
