The Saskatoon Board of Police Commissioners will not be looking into the extent to which repeat offenders take up its resources following a request from a concerned resident.
Sherry Tarasoff wrote a letter to the board, which requested several pieces of information from 2025, including how much SPS funding went to deal with the top five repeat adult and young offenders in the city.
Commissioner John Lagimodiere stated that gathering this data would be nearly impossible, and if they were to try, it would require extensive resources and pay.
“These are also the same folks that ask us to count all the missing shopping carts. So, to put that onus on us to create this information that would be, you know, how do you even figure out who the top five offenders are.”
The Board ruled that a report on the matter would not be initiated. Tarasoff noted that in the retail crime blitz in January 30 arrests were made; 15 of which were repeat offenders and 10 were considered violent.
