On April 17 around 1:30 p.m. Meadow Lake RCMP Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS) attempted a traffic stop after noticing a car with an expired plate on Highway #55 east of Meadow Lake. Police say the car fled from officers.
The vehicle was later located on Highway #4 near Meadow Lake, and again on Highway #304 near Loon Lake, where it continued to evade police.
During all of this, police believe the car’s occupants had switched to a different driver. Shortly after, with assistance from Loon Lake RCMP, officers located the vehicle in Loon Lake. The male driver fled on foot. Three female passengers, including the person police believe was the initial driver, were arrested at the scene.
With assistance RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS), the male who fled on foot was located and arrested. After searching the car, Meadow Lake RCMP located and seized approximately 10 grams of methamphetamine and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
Twenty-one-year-old Marissa Nateweyes from Prince Albert, and 31-year-old John Carter from James Smith Cree Nation face a variety of charges and were also issued several traffic-related tickets. The other two female passengers were released without charge.
31-year-old John Carter from James Smith Cree Nation, has been charged with:
” one count, flight from peace officer, Section 320.17, Criminal Code;
” one count, resists/obstruct public officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code;
” one count, dangerous operation of motor vehicle, Section 320.13(1), Criminal Code;
” one count, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code; and
” one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
21-year-old Marissa Nateweyes from Prince Albert has been charged with:
” one count, flight from peace officer, Section 320.17, Criminal Code;
” one count, operation while impaired of a motor vehicle, Section 320.14(1)(a), Criminal Code;
” one count, dangerous operation of motor vehicle, Section 320.13(1), Criminal Code;
” one count, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code; and
” one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
