Senator Roland Crowe was a respected Cree leader from the Piapot First Nation, born in 1943, passed away on April 28th. The FSIN says he leaves behind a profound legacy of leadership, courage, and service to First Nations people in Saskatchewan and beyond.
The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations said in a news release that among his most lasting contributions was his lead role in the 1992 Saskatchewan Treaty Land Entitlement (TLE) Framework Agreement. As a key negotiator, Crowe helped resolve outstanding treaty land debts owed under Treaty 4 and Treaty 6, resulting in the addition of over 1.6 million acres of land to First Nations.
Following his service as FSIN Chief, Roland Crowe was a member of the FSIN Senate, beginning in 2000. In recognition of his lifetime of public service and leadership, he was awarded the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in 2017.
Thursday there is a traditional service at the Piapot First Nation Band Hall. with the wake starting at 4:00 p.m. continuing through the evening.
Friday a service at the Piapot Band Hall will take place at 11:00 a.m. and Sunday a second service in honor of Senator Roland Crowe will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the Regina Funeral Home.
