This year, The War Amps are celebrating 80 years of their Key Tag Campaign.
The free campaign offers a coded tag that you can attach to your keys or other commonly misplaced belongings. If you happen to lose them, they can be put in the mail and delivered back to their rightful owner based on that personalized code.
Leanne Holtvogt says she was born without both of her arms and proceeds from fundraisers like this have helped her immensely throughout her life, as The War Amps rely solely on donations.
“I personally have benefitted from all of those donations from the key tag service. For example, swim arms are not covered by the government here in Saskatchewan, so The War, Amps helped fund me to have swim arms as a child.”
Alongside swim arms, The War Amps also provide “funding for the peer-to-peer support that CHAMPS, or child amputees, get at seminars, or helping to cover artificial limbs that may not be covered under government funding. They also support other programs like advocacy programs for amputees within the province that may need the support of the War Amps for different situations that they might encounter.”
If you’ve already applied to be a part of the free program, your new key tag will be mailed out today, Monday. If you’re interested in getting one, head to war amps.ca, or call 18002503030.
