More than 110,000 SaskPower customers were left in the dark at some point over the past couple of days due to the recent extremely strong windstorm. That works out to nearly 20 percent of all SaskPower customers in the province.
The highest number of outages were in Regina and were mostly concentrated in areas near or south of the TransCanada Highway. The worst time for power failures was between 3pm and 6pm on Thursday.
In some cases, it was too windy for crews to make immediate repairs. The highest wind gust of 115 km/hr was reported Thursday at Radville, about 130 kilometres south of Regina. Eight other communities also reported wind gusts exceeding 100 km/hr including Climax, Milestone, Coronach, Swift Current, Estevan, Yellow Grass, Val Marie and Shaunavon.
