Bear spray on city bus
Saskatoon Police are investigating a bear spray incident on a city bust late Monday night.
Around 11:30 p.m. officers responded to the bear spray incident near Diefenbaker Drive and Vanier Crescent.
When they arrived, they found everyone who was on the bus, on the sidewalk – being treated by paramedics and firefighters.
Officers learned a male began to get off the bus before reportedly turning around and discharging bear spray at two people. The suspect then ran north in an alley. The suspect and victims are believed to be known to each other.
Weapons offence
The Saskatoon Police Service says a man come out of a business in the 1000 block of Idylwyld Drive and began to possibly conceal a weapon. This was Monday evening around 7:30 p.m.
Two males were arrested and through their investigation police learned that one of the suspects had allegedly threatened a security guard before walking out of the store and pulling out a bat. The bat was recovered by police at the scene. Police say a search of the other suspect resulted in officers locating brass knuckles.
A 22-year-old man has been charged with uttering threats, possession of a dangerous weapon, and carrying a concealed weapon. A 25-year-old man has been charged with possession of a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, and breaching probation.
Evade Police
Saskatoon Police initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle travelling in an alley between Avenue J and Avenue I shortly after 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The vehicle didn’t stop for police and members of the Air Support Unit began monitoring the vehicle from the sky.
ASU say the vehicle travelled at a high rate of speed on Circle Drive before going into a residential area near 39th Street West then eventually stopped, and two female passengers got out and were detained shortly after.
Another high-risk traffic stop was attempted but the vehicle again took off. A tire deflation device was successfully deployed near 29th Street West and Avenue H South and eventually came to a stop in the area between 22nd Street West and 23rd Street West near Montreal Avenue and the driver fled on foot. Police say they searched the vehicle and located a can of bear spray a well as a taser.
A 27-year-old woman has been charged with evading police, dangerous driving, operating a vehicle while being prohibited from doing so, possession of a weapon, and failure to comply with court-imposed conditions.
