Shortly before 8:00pm on June 15, a Saskatoon Police Service Combined Traffic Service Saskatchewan officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding in the RM of Laird.
The driver had a Mandatory Alcohol Screening test and it came back as a fail. Once the driver found out, he fled the scene. The officer followed the suspect to Waldheim, and while attempting to make an arrest, the man assaulted the police officer. An RCMP member arrived on scene and assisted in taking the man into custody.
A 47-year-old man was charged with Fail to Stop, Resist Arrest, and Assault Peace Officer. He was also arrested on three outstanding warrants.
With funding from SGI, CTSS is an initiative designed to target distracted and impaired driving along with excessive speeding, in key areas of the province.
