Saskatoon is bucking the trend for average retail gasoline prices in the last week after prices fell 3.1 c/L averaging 162.50 c/L Sunday. That’s according to GasBuddy.com’s daily survey of 81 gas outlets in Saskatoon. This compares with the national average that has increased 8.3 c/L in the last week to 173.67 c/L. Provincially gas prices are up 0.5 cents per litre in the last week.

In a news release head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, Patrick De Haan said, “Average gasoline and diesel prices rose in every province over the last week, with more than half of provinces seeing gasoline jump by over 7 cents per litre and four provinces posting diesel increases exceeding 15 cents per litre.

He says the broad-based surge reflects the same pressures weighing on markets globally – the Strait of Hormuz remains closed while continued Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries further squeeze an already strained global refining supply picture.

De Haan also notes that with West Texas Intermediate crude approaching $85 per barrel in Sunday night trading, the upward trend shows no signs of reversing, and Canadians should brace for continued pressure at the pump in the days ahead.
