WestJet and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), representing WestJet Cabin Crew, have reached a tentative agreement which brings the work stoppage and network-wide operational disruption to an end. It also means both strike and lockout notices have been withdrawn. The agreement will now go to WestJet Cabin Crew for a ratification vote.
In a news release Alexis von Hoensbroech, Chief Executive Officer of WestJet. “We know this disruption has been frustrating for our guests and WestJetters and we’re sorry for that. Our teams are working hard to restore service and get our guests on their way to their destinations as quickly as possible and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we get back to normal.”
The deal outlined earlier by WestJet included a retroactive wage payment to January 1, 2026, and a new Duty pay premium – a payment for all duty hours (additional pay for all hours worked designed to solve the union’s claim of unpaid work), equivalent to another 12 per cent of salary increase.
- Effective October 1, 2026 – 13.0 per cent increase
- Effective January 1, 2027 – 2.5 per cent increase
- Effective January 1, 2028 – 2.5 per cent increase
- Effective January 1, 2029 – 2.5 per cent increase
The agreement will now go to WestJet Cabin Crew for a ratification vote. WestJet will share further details on the return to operations as they become available.
