Health Canada has approved $3.6 million for a Mobile Complex Needs Team in Prince Albert.
Operating 24/7, the team will respond to individuals in crisis, de-escalate situations and connect people to appropriate treatment and support services. It’s hoped the new team will be able to reduce the overdose death rate in Prince Albert. The initiative will create 12 new jobs and should be in operation by early next year.
PA Mayor Bill Powalinsky says his city’s overdose rate is comparable to that of larger centres like Saskatoon, and initiatives like this should reduce overdose risks before they become fatal.
This team, although a similar endeavor, is separate from the existing Complex Needs Emergency Shelter, but a release from the City of PA says it will complement it.
