Ledcor has posted an update on the construction status at Saskatoon’s new Central Library which will be located at 321 2nd Avenue North and is slated to open in 2027.
The company says mass timber construction is nearing completion, describing the four-storey hybrid structure as a tribute to reconciliation, sustainability, and accessibility.
Ledcor, in a social media post, says the exterior is inspired by the form of a First Nations tipi. The building will include exposed timber that pays tribute to the Métis log home.
The library design, with the goal of being a hub in the community, includes public spaces, program rooms, collections, and services.
This project uses hybrid structural steel and CLT, or cross laminated timber system, which Ledcor says is rare for large public buildings.
The building is now getting closer to being enclosed.
