Instead of calming the situation down, it seems the Prime Minister’s invitation to Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs to have a conversation with the government and shut down the protests has had the opposite effect. More rail blockades have popped up across the country.
In one instance last night (Mon), RCMP officers were called to assist CN Police after about 2 dozen protesters blockaded the CN Rail track west of New Hazelton, in northern British Columbia. One train reportedly had a near miss with a male on the tracks, just prior to CN Rail becoming aware of the blockade. Police arrested 14 people who refused to leave CN Rail’s private property, which would be the rail tracks.
B.C. RCMP say a large group of protesters remained in the area throughout the evening, but around 3:30 when the arrested protesters were released, the group blockading Highway 16 cleared the road and the highway was re-opened.
Among others, new blockadesbegan outside the B.C. Legislature and at a road leading to the Port of Vancouver, along with new protests in Ontario and Quebec.
