Quite a weekend for football in Saskatchewan! The Saskatoon Hilltops capped it with a thrilling 21-18 win over the Okanagan Sun to claim the program’s 24th National Championship.
The Toppers dominated the first half and held a 16-4 lead going into halftime but some big plays from the Sun in the second half turned the momentum and with 93 seconds left, Okanagan scored a touchdown to tie the score at 18. The Hilltops marched it down the field and Ryden Gratton sealed the deal with a 37 yards field goal with only 28 seconds on the clock.
David Collins was named the Offensive Player of the Game, while linebacker Isaac Michayluk recorded nine tackles and was named Defensive Player of the Game. Charles Sawi took home Special Teams Player of the Game with seven returns, gaining 66 yards.
