The Ministry of Environment is asking hunters in the Boreal transition zone and along the eastern border to submit their heads in for chronic wasting disease and bovine tuberculosis testing.
This season, testing for chronic wasting disease is mandatory in wildlife management zone 43, 47, 50 and 55, while bovine tuberculosis testing is mandatory in zones 37 and 39. Elsewhere, testing is voluntary but highly recommended.
Hunters have one month or until January 21st to submit their game heads for testing, depending on whichever comes first.
If you suspect your harvested animal tests positive for chronic wasting disease, dispose of the carcass or meat properly. If you suspect your animal has bovine tuberculosis, take a photo and email it to the Ministry of Environment at centre-dot-inquiry-at-gov-sk-dot-ca or call the Canadian Wildlife Health Co-operative.
