The Canadian Urban Transit Association has selected Saskatoon Transit to receive the 2025 Corporate Award for Safety & Security.
Saskatoon was selected for its Frontline Employee Safety Plan, which introduced 19 safety initiatives in 2024, as well as a public awareness campaign featuring frontline employees sharing their stories through videos, radio, and ads.
Throughout 2024 and 2025, Saskatoon Transit has deployed a variety of safety professionals, including 14 Service Supervisors and 12 Fire Community Support Officers. Special Constable Alternative Response Officers and Bike Unit regular officers also conduct sweeps through the Downton Terminal, and all buses are equipped with radios which provide an operator with a direct line to City fire, medical and police resources.
These resources are paying off, resulting in a sharp decline in operator assaults, from nine in the first half of 2024 to zero in the second. In September, there were 64 negative interactions on City buses, up slightly from 63 in August, but down significantly from 89 in September 2024.
