Around 11:30 p.m. Monday police responded to an unknown problem in Saskatoon’s Pleasant Hill neighbourhood while at the same time the ASU could see several people at the intersection of Bedford Road and Avenue R North. As well they spotted a white S-U-V leaving the area. Patrol units tried to stop the vehicle when it pulled over in the 200 block of Avenue V South, but the driver fled.
A tire deflation device was successfully used about nine blocks away, but the vehicle didn’t stop until it got to the 1400 block of Embassy Drive in Holiday Park. The two people inside were taken into custody. The driver, a 35-year-old man was charged with Dangerous Driving, breaching court-imposed conditions and Evade Police while the passenger was released without charges.
About three hours later officers tried to stop a suspected stolen pickup truck in the area of Confederation Drive and Miyowahkohtowin Road. The ASU saw the vehicle travelling at high rates of speed and into oncoming lanes of traffic as it left city limits.
The vehicle continued to travel on Highway 16 and was eventually observed stopping near Maymont at which point a Lincoln Continental showed up as another form of transportation.
RCMP officers deployed a tire deflation device and conducted a high-risk traffic stop and two men were taken into custody with the assistance of a police service dog from the Saskatoon Police Service canine unit.
A 27-year-old man is charged with Resist Arrest, Dangerous Driving, Evade Police, Prohibited Operation of Motor Vehicle, and Possession of Proceeds of Property Over $5000. A 37-year-old is charged with Resist Arrest and Dangerous Driving.
