Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer says people travelling to and from areas affected by COVID-19 should monitor for fever, cough and difficulty breathing for 14 days after they’ve travelled. And if you have those symptoms, call the HealthLine 811.
The change in recommendations comes as Novel Coronavirus 2019 is detected in new jurisdictions. It has now spread to every continent except Antarctica.
Dr. Saqib Shaab says the spread of COVID-19 can still be limited in Canada by monitoring symptoms, staying home if you’re ill and practicing personal protection like good hand hygiene.
Anyone who has travelled to Hubei, the epicentre of the outbreak, in the last 14 days, is to stay at home for 14 days after leaving the area and actively monitor for symptoms of COVID-19.
Protect Yourself from Respiratory Illness:
Wash your hands frequently;
Do not touch surfaces and then your mouth, eyes or nose;
Use tissues when you cough or sneeze and dispose of them immediately; and
Stay home if you become ill and prevent the spread of the illness.
