The Regina Police Service is alerting the public about Canada Revenue Agency scam attempts as we gear up for tax season.
The RPS says the scams circulate all year, but recently, fraudsters who impersonate the CRA or Service Canada are taking advantage of tax season to bilk people of their funds through phon, text message or email.
Some Regina residents have reported being contacted by someone claiming to work for CRA saying they are under investigate and must give over their personal information including their Social Insurance Number.
If you receive a call like this, the RPS advises to not be intimidate by the forceful tones and instead hang up.
Do not give your SIN or other personal information out over the phone, or by text or email.
