Marek Schlenker earned the Regina Pats one point in the W-H-L standings Saturday night, but he couldn’t prevent the Saskatoon Blades from getting two.

Cooper Williams was able to make his way in close and beat Schlenker short side at 2:16 of overtime as the Bridge City Bunch out-lasted Regina 3-2. It was the Blue and Gold’s 49th shot on goal of the game as the Blades out-shot the Pats 49-14 before 7,048 fans at SaskTel Centre. It was the first game back after the Christmas break for both teams and was the first game of a home-and-home series. Saskatoon never trailed as defenceman Brayden Klimpke touched off the Teddy Bear Toss 7:03 into the first period. However, following a 13-minute delay to clean the stuffies from the ice, Regina tied the score. After a scoreless second period, in which the Bridge City Bunch owned a 20-3 advantage on the shot clock, the teams traded power play goals early in the third period, forcing the extra period. Kazden Mathies got credit for the Blue and Gold man advantage marker as the rebound of Klimpke’s point shot banked off his chest and into the Pats’ net. The win improved the Blades’ record to 18-14-3 while Regina dropped to 11-17-4 going into Sunday’s return match at 2 o’clock. CJWW’s broadcast starts at 1:45.
