SaskPower says despite the cold snap that has been bearing down on Saskatchewan, the crown corporation’s power grid remained strong enough it could export power to support other jurisdictions.
From Friday evening through Monday morning SaskPower continuously sold the maximum of 150 MW into the Southwest Power Pool, the grid and wholesale market for 14 states in the United States Midwest.
When temperatures in Saskatchewan dropped below -30 degrees this past Saturday SaskPower says 61 per cent of its power generation came from natural gas while 29 per cent came from coal.
