Suggesting that a proposed rate hike at SGI could be a sign of the government mismanaging the Crown Corporation, the opposition NDP is calling on the Provincial Auditor to immediately launch a special investigation of Saskatchewan Government Insurance.
On January 2, SGI submitted a proposal to the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel seeking rate hikes for 2026 and 2027. The NDP says the proposal would see 98 per cent of Saskatchewan drivers pay higher premiums on an interim basis starting in June 2026, with some commercially used light trucks seeing increases of up to $140.
Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for SGI Darcy Warrington says, “This rate hike came out of nowhere for Saskatchewan people”. He has formally requested the Provincial Auditor investigate SGI’s finances, transparency, and compliance with its legislated responsibilities.
Meanwhile, in a news release, the Saskatchewan NDP say a recent hire by the Saskatchewan Party was just Scott Moe finding a “cushy role for his insider friends.”
Announced Monday, longtime Sask. Party member Patrick Bundrock has been appointed to assistant cabinet secretary and clerk of executive council.
Bundrock was previously executive director of the Saskatchewan Party, a position he resigned from in August. The NDP says he thought it was time to move on.
The NDP release added that Bundrock’s salary in his new position will be $198,000.
