The governments of Manitoba and Canada are funding a new power transmission line which will eventually see Saskatchewan import 215 megawatts of electricity.
The money, $19 million from Ottawa’s Canada Infrastructure plan, and $42 million from Manitoba, will see a 46 km line built from Birtle to the Saskatchewan boundary.
Manitoba Hydro President Jay Grewal says the announcement is important in moving ahead with reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and benefits both provinces. In Saskatchewan, we benefit from green energy, and improved reliability. Manitoba gets export revenue.
