The City’s transportation committee zeroed in on extension cords across sidewalks Monday afternoon.
Marcia Provenzano sent a letter to the committee asking that the City establish a bylaw that requires people to mark where they have extension cords crossing the sidewalk.
This comes after she tripped over an extension cord one Sunday morning in January while out for a walk. In her letter to the committee, Provenzano said she got a cut above her left which required four stitches.
All of those on the committee, except for Councillor Zach Jefferies voted in favour of a motion to have City Administration review their “options for keeping sidewalks safe for all users with respect to electrical cords and to look into possibly changing the wording under the electrical equipment bylaw.
Currently the bylaw states that residents in the city are allowed to use extension cords across sidewalks given that they’re plugged in and are not left in a “haphazard manner”.
Jefferies says he would have been in favour for educating residents on ways to be a little bit safer.
