With Davidson’s health centre being the only care facility between Saskatoon and Regina, the community’s volunteer fire chief is calling for better emergency care.
Fire Chief Cory Dean says despite being the only healthcare facility along that stretch of busy Highway 11, there is no doctor in town, and on several occasions last year, the Centre operated with only virtual physicians available.
Dean explains that, “Whether it’s a heart attack, fire or car accident, we’re the ones that get called to it…If something goes down, you know that you’re going to get the call to go and assist with it in it. That’s stressful.”
He adds that emergency calls to the Davidson Fire Department have more than doubled over the past five years, and he “would like to see more provincial funding for rural departments like ours.”
The Saskatchewan NDP echoed his remarks, stating that an NDP government would invest in emergency care along Highway 11 and right across the province.
