The RCMP’s North Battleford and Lloydminster Crime Reduction teams were in the Turtleford detachment area on Wednesday, February 25th to apprehend people wanted on arrest warrants.
Officers located a woman in a residence in the R.M. of Mervin who was wanted on multiple warrants for charges including assaulting a police officer. A second woman was inside the residence and was arrested as well.
After obtaining a search warrant, RCMP report seizing three firearms, ammunition, 3.5 kilograms of illicit cannabis, 20 grams of methamphetamine, 120 pharmaceutical-style tablets and 1.2 grams of cocaine.
Thirty-nine year old Sherry Thunderchild from the Thunderchild First Nation and Brittany Brown of Turtleford were charged with the following:
- one count, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon or restricted weapon, Section 91(2), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of a restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammunition without license/registration, Section 95(1), Criminal Code;
- three counts, careless use of a firearm, Section 86(1), Criminal Code;
- three counts, unsafe storage of firearms, Section 86(2), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of a firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle, Section 94(1), Criminal Code;
- two counts, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized, Section 92(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession – cocaine, Section 4(1), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; and
- one count, possession – methamphetamine, Section 4(1), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Sherry Thunderchild was also arrested on her outstanding warrants.
The pair made their first court appearances in North Battleford last week.
